Heart of the highlands
Aviemore is the perfect base to explore the wildlife, scenery and diversity of the highlands. Bennachie (pronounced Benn-a-HEE) is located at the North West area of Aviemore in the exclusive High Burnside development. There is so much to see and do and here are just some suggestions to make your break a memorable one.
Beach in the mountains
Loch Morlich is only 15 minutes drive away. A stunning sandy beach and fresh water Loch with wonderful views of the Cairngorm mountains and ski area. There is also a fantastic water sports facility on the beach where you can hire equipment or get instruction. If that sounds like too much effort, relax in the café above the water sport shop and sit out on the balcony and watch the world go by.
There are countless walks in close proximity to the house – from adventurous hill walks to gentle woodland strolls. There are 18 Munros in Cairngorm Mountains a list of which can be found at the link below
Or if you want something easier to suit all the family why not try the fabulous walks round Loch an Eilein in the Rothiemurchus estate. Voted Britain’s best picnic spot in 2010.
Deer, red squirrels, pine martins, pheasants and birds of all kinds inhabit the Cairngorms. The Craigellachie nature reserve adjacent to Bennachie is home to a pair of peregrine falcons. Visit the RSPB Ospreys centre at Loch Garten or meet the reindeer in the Cairngorm national park. Alternative spend sometime at the Highland Wildlife Park (free entry for Edinburgh Zoo members, pass required).
In winter, the Cairngorm ski slopes are only 20 minutes drive away. Alternatively there is a ski bus (Stagecoach route 31) just 10 mins walk from Bennachie to the slopes. With 11 lifts and more than 30km of runs, they cater for snow sports enthusiasts at all levels. The funicular takes you up to over 3,500 feet and is open year round. Equipment hire shops are located in Aviemore should you need skis or snowboards. Ski/boards can be stored safely in the garage with the rack provide.
The area has so much to offer kids of all ages; soft play, Folk museum, Strathspey steam railway and not forgetting the adventure park “Landmark”. There are several swimming pools within the Aviemore area.
Biking, Golf & Water sports
Blast some of the mountain bike trails on Rothiemurchus Estate or enjoy the quite back roads of Strathspey. Bike hire shops in Aviemore and Boat of Garten. Golfers are treated with excellent courses nearby. From the championship Spey Valley course at Dalfaber to the beautiful but challenging course at Boat of Garten (exclusive discount at Spey Valley course when you stay at Bennachie, details inside the house). If water sports is your passion why not visit Loch Insh or Loch Morlich water sports.
Eating, drinking and shopping
With Aviemore shops, restaurants, hotels and bars and on your door step, you’re spoilt for choice. Why not have afternoon tea at the Potting Shed and enjoy the home baking and wonderful build life through the conservatory. Or for fine cuisine try The Rowan Tree or Anderson’s. There is also a Butcher in Nethy Bridge.
